Why We Want to Help
The Conquerors program started out of New Life Family Services in the 1980s. We were receiving many requests for help in counseling those who have had abortions, so we began to pray for a ministry to meet that need. The prayers were answered through two volunteers that had recovered from the damage their past abortions had caused. These volunteers, along with the Executive Director and licensed therapist, Jeannette Vought, PhD. developed the Conquerors curriculum.
Over the past three decades, we have seen transformation in the lives of those who attend our program. We see women and men arrive at the first group meeting, downcast and hurting, only to leave weeks later free from the pain. Our staff and volunteers have participated in the Conquerors group, healed from the wounds of our past abortions and have had our lives changed. Because we know the difference healing this pain can make, we want to help others.
From our personal experiences, we also found that we had no idea how much our past abortions were impacting our lives. Our pain was stuffed down, resurfacing occasionally during stressful times or triggered by some event that reminded us of the loss we were burying. It was hurting our marriages, our parenting and our relationships.
Some of us started drinking heavily, developing an eating disorder or acting out in anger over the littlest of things. We developed depression or anxiety or fear. We became people we no longer knew. Abortion changed us. Abortion may have changed you.
Now we can see that getting free from our past abortions has changed us as well. We can now live the full life that was originally intended for us. For all these reasons, the Conquerors program was developed and continues today.
